The Kingery Egg business was set up back in 1996 and they’ve been attending Beccles Farmers Market since the very first one back in 2000! It’s a real family business as Helen and John are often joined by helpers such as their grandchildren George and Charlie.

They’re based near Wrentham, Suffolk and primarily sell their eggs through the Sainsbury’s ‘Woodland Eggs’ range. At the market he most popular product is the scrumptious Extra-Large Eggs which cost 2.40 per Dozen. At the next market you’ll be able to taste some of their eggs for yourself as they will be used in the cooking demonstration.

Meet our ‘Producer of the Market’… Blackbird Cottage!

Blackbird cottage have been attending our market since October last year. After becoming frustrated with a lack of quality Terrines available in the area they decided to start making their own – and they are truly delicious!

They use a combination of carefully sourced top quality local meats combined with flavour-enhancing ingredients such as red wine, pink peppercorns and juniper berries (no unnecessary ingredients such as egg, bread or preservatives)

Variations of their terrines include:

  • Wild duck with Montmorency cherries or cranberries steeped in Cinzano

  • Garlic and garden herbs with red wine

  • Chicken breast with roasted pistachios and pink peppercorns

  • Wood pigeon shot through with tipsy prunes (steeped in Cinzano)

  • Wild boar with pistachio

  • Game and red wine

  • Venison and red wine

They’ve just launched an Exclusive Black Truffle Chicken Liver Parfait and to celebrate being producer of the month we’ll be displaying some information on how terrines are made on their behalf with plenty of tasters available for you to try them for yourselves!

See you at the Old heliport, Ellough from 9am – 1pm this Saturday.

Beccles Farmers Market Stallholders & Staff (May 2017)

Commemorative plate
sourced at the market

Yesterday, after 17 years, we said farewell to some of our original stallholders. Sue and Ian from Lane Farm and Pam from St Margaret’s Catering both joined our market back when we started in 2000. Lots has changed since then but our friendly and approachable stallholders have always remained the backbone of our farmers market. We wish them all the best for the future and some well earned respite and relaxation!

Fear not, Lane Farm’s products will be available at the next two markets and we’ve got Friends Farm lined up to join us when they finish. At the next market on 3rd June we’ll also be joined by Lucy’s cake stall, Joaquim the Artisan Pastry Chef, Shuck brewery with their local ale and Venison from Graham. Fritton Owl Sanctuary will also be back with their beautiful feathered friends!

Congratulations to Carol the winner of our new raffle, she won all these goodies for only 50p!! You can win a varied selection of market products just like this at every market (drawn at 12:30). Could it be your lucky day?

Yesterdays market was all about green fingers and gorgeous herbs… We had a ‘test yourself’ herb quiz, demonstration on infusing oils and celebrated ‘Georges Gorgeous Gardens’ as our producer of the Month.
George’s Gorgeous Gardens have been attending other markets for the last five years and joined us at Beccles Farmers Market last year. He usually attends every market from March up until around Christmas. He is a horticulturalist who only uses natural pesticides and sells many different varieties of plants. In particular he specialises in house plants and herbs – because we all love happy healthy plants!

Our next Market on the 3rd June has loads of new stallholders and will be celebrating the Terrific Terrines from Blackbird Cottage Foods as our next ‘Producer of the Market’.

Don’t forget you can pre-book a range of market products and more online through our new Food Assembly project.

Celebrating British Lamb

Firstly a HUGE congratulations to Cally who won our Easter Raffle with ticket number 973! Thank you to everyone that took part – your profits are being donated to Fritton Owl Sanctuary.

Our next market will be next Saturday the 6th May! where we’re celebrating local British Lamb and Wool with demonstrations, information and recipes that highlight the delicious possibilities of lamb and versatility of the UK Wool industry.

We have a special cooking demo with some lovely lamb from our resident chef Graeme, tasters from our new ‘Producer of the Month’. Also look out for the gorgeous hand spun wool and knitted products from Spinspired who are joining us to celebrate.

Welcome to our brand new ‘Producer of the Market’ feature…

To kick us off I’d like to introduce you to Joan from the wonderful D J Barnard’s who have been supplying our market with delicious lamb since the very beginning over 16 years ago!

Joan at the market

“we have very much enjoyed every market always look forward to it” – Joan

As fifth generation farmers, they pride themselves on producing some of the finest meats in Norfolk, having sold home reared meats to the public since 1997. They farm in Breckland, covering the villages of Rocklands, Shropham and Eccles. They are a small family run business, managing the farm, butchery and deliveries. This enables them to provide a bespoke service to customers who enjoy hearing how the animals are reared on the farm and speaking to a friendly face at the market.

Their lamb is from an extensively grazed flock of Suffolk ewes that gives a well conformed, lean, lamb perfect for your dinner table!

Some of their particularly popular products include Minted Lamb Meatballs that are covered in a mint glaze. You can pre-order these and many other tasty products from the market’s online food assembly (open til Thurs) or direct through their own website.

To celebrate being ‘Producer of the Market’ D J Barnard’s will have an information display with samples and tasters. If you visited this time last year you might have had the pleasure of already trying these, however unfortunately due to logistics this year we won’t be visited by any lambs as we have been in previous years.

Look out for George’s Gorgeous Garden who will be our next ‘Producer of the Market’

FYI **Soon we’ll be starting a regular raffle, giving you the chance to win delicious market goodies whilst raising money for much-needed market promotional material.

Celebrating English Tourism Week

Next weekends Market on April 1 is not to be missed!

Not only will we be launching our first online Food Assembly market, we’ll also be celebrating local businesses and tourism as part of English Tourism Week from 10.30 – 12.30.

Please help us spread the word by supporting our crowdspeaking campaign

Our wood turner & carpenter will be showcasing their craft with carving and woodworking demonstrations throughout the day. Alongside this, we will be having plenty of tasters and cooking demonstrations using the best of our stallholders produce. There will also be interactive games to keep the kids occupied (or for any of you that are feeling young at heart!).

Due to the large variety of delicious produce we need to add to the online shop, we have also postponed the launch of the new online food assembly to coincide with the events of English Tourism Week.

So, keep your eyes peeled for updates on the exciting new developments, that are helping get our great British produce, out to the great British public.

We look forward to seeing you there!

If you are a local business, producer or tourist attraction and you would like to get involved, feel free to contact
